INTRODUCTION TO THE MAYISTS MOVEMENT

Socialist Workers Movement (SWM) was formed in January 1991 as the May 31st Movement(M31M). We are working people and youths who are fed up with the present capitalist system in Nigeria and want to fight for a new society: a socialist Nigeria, a socialist federation of Africa and another world which is possible; where all will contribute to the best of their abilities and society will provide for everyone according to their needs from the social wealth.

The social wealth of the world, is enough for every body to have all the basic necessities of life. But the exploitative nature of capitalism ensures that only a small minority appropriate this immense wealth, while we, the vast majority who produce the wealth live in misery; hungry, destitute, hopeless, barely living from day, to day.

Capitalism is a world-wide social, economic and political system. We, the working-class which it exploits and alienates, also constitute an international movement. Capitalism will be eradicated only through international struggle and solidarity of working people. We are thus international socialists, supporters of the International Socialist Tendency with other organizations like us in all the continents of the world, fighting against capitalism.

The capitalists will have to be defeated in each country. In Nigeria SWM marches together with workers in our unions, activists in our communities and in groups like LASCO, to fight the capitalist bosses. We can defeat this class of exploiters only through organization, mobilization and mass education.

Join us today and let us fight together for:

* a strong working class movement
* a revolutionary Labour Party
* self-organized, emancipatory actions of working people
* an end to all exploitation and oppression of working people
* the unity of all marginalized and oppressed in Nigeria
* revolution from below and not the deceptions of reforms from above
* unity and solidarity of workers of the world and international socialism

Forward Ever!
